This is a pretty old post that I'm replying to, but why not make the wttr.in lookup as a door "game"? That's how I have it set up on my BBS. That way the user can check whatever location they want with the weather right then.

Actually over on my main BBS you can do just that. If you run syncterm you can see it in full sixel mode too =)

    That's actually what's making those posts. :)

Some months back I put a script together to curl the output from wttr.in to a local file, downgrade the colors from 256 to 16 (if needed for the terminal), translate most of the UTF8 characters to close matching CP437 characters, and display the results to the user. When a user logged in runs it, they can enter the desired location or just use their IP address.

I also made it so it can be run without a user logged in, that way I can run it

for a bunch of different locations and merge the outputs into a nice report to post around the nets. That's what you're seeing in TQW_BOT (as well as in other

    weather-related echoes).

It's part of a larger 'weather center' mod that I've been tooling around with on my BBS. It mainly gets and displays forecast data for US cities from weather.gov and for international cities from openweathermap.org. Getting info from wttr.in is just another option I threw in there.

If I can figure out how to download radar map images from these sources, it might be cool to convert them on the fly to sixel and display them in SyncTERM... :)
